Background and intent of the documentary record.

My name is Marisa Malapad.

I did not begin writing this account as a book or a public project. For many years I kept personal notes simply to understand events that I could not easily explain. Over time, the material became too extensive to remain private, and I decided to organize it so it could be examined by others.

I am not a scholar, researcher, or public figure. I am an ordinary person who chose to document experiences as accurately as possible while preserving dates, places, and context.
